Two noticeable changes are the fact that we will not have the ability to choose a landing page but we will be able to bring brand awareness using the cover image, so characteristic of the Timeline and a great place for brands to show what they are all about. But like anything Facebook-related, there are some guidelines that must be followed and restrictions like pricing or purchasing information, call to action (‘like this page’), and contact information are some of them. The tabs are still there – and larger! – and we can still create a nice, custom-designed and coded tab for you, with a call to action on the tab thumbnail.
One of the most interesting features of the Timeline is the ‘milestones’ option, where you can add your business history, not being limited to when Facebook was created. A great example is The New York Times Timeline, where they go back all the way to the 1800’s, when the company was founded.
Another nice feature is that your fans can direct message you now. All the administrators of your page will receive the same email from the fan – so make sure you have clearly stated who will be answering it if you have more than one admin.
You now can highlight a post and show it in two columns instead of one. So, if you have a nice photo or video, you can certainly hit the ‘highlight’ button and proudly display it to your fans. You can also ‘pin’ a post and have it on top of your page for a full week. Isn’t it awesome?
