It’s been a while since I wrote a ‘real’ blog post – I mean, one that is not only about the websites I’ve been creating.
So, recently WordPress released one of their biggest updates to date: Guttenberg. Or the ‘world of blocks’ as they started calling it. I believe most of my clients are now using this version and slowly we will start understanding how it works and where everything lives in this new setup.
The idea is simple: instead of a page where everything goes in there, not mattering if it is text, image, gallery etc, we use blocks. So, if you have a text with many paragraphs, each paragraph will be a block. The image will be another block and the gallery will be another one.
It might sound counterproductive but, in fact, it’s not. I hated it when it was first launched but as time passes and I started using it for building websites and not only update them, I can see the benefits. Moving images up and down the page became something extremely easy to do…
The rest is pretty much the same – how plugins work and how the whole backend of your site is setup. Guttenberg is here to stay so if you need some kind of training or even a refresh on how to update your site, give me a call!
